For many parents and kids, summer signals the end of homework season and a segue into summer camps and easy-breezy days filled with sunscreen, splash pads and family fun. But for kids who rely on school lunch programs, summer brings the return of hungry tummies and food insecurity.

It’s a heartbreaking statistic, but Food Banks Canada reports that food bank usage is at its highest level in history, with nearly 1.5 million visits last year. In fact, in 2022, they reported that 33 percent of food bank users in Canada were kids, yet they only make up 20 percent of the population. Subway® Canada believes that no kid should be worried about where their next meal is coming from; rather, they should be focused on kid problems – like getting their basketball down from the rim of the net.

How Subway Helps

To help kids focus on kid problems, Subway Canada is launching the fifth milestone year of its Never Miss Lunch® program by committing its largest donation yet to help provide 185,000 healthy food packs to children across Canada over the summer break, when many school programs end. And this is where you come in: on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Subway Canada will be hosting its annual Never Miss Lunch Day donating $1 from every Footlong purchased in Subway restaurants across Canada.

While beloved for its pillowy bread and seemingly endless sauce selection, Subway Canada is also an active member of the community. All its franchisees nationwide are passionate about the communities they serve and rally together for Never Miss Lunch Day each year to help feed as many kids as possible.

You get a delicious, made-fresh sub with the extra enjoyment of knowing that a portion of your purchase is helping to feed kids in over 200 communities like yours. And Subway Canada’s recent launch of the Subway Series makes ordering your fave Footlong even easier. Drawing on over 55 years of Subway's sandwich artistry, you can now choose from 15 chef-created sandwiches — like Suprimo and Green Goddess — to easily order a masterpiece with no choice paralysis at the veggie selection.

And because kids should have kid problems, not hunger problems, Subway Canada is bolstering its donation efforts by posing the question: “What’s the best thing about being a kid?” Have a think and enter the Never Miss Lunch Sandwich Wrap Design Competition by submitting your original art by June 18. For every drawing submitted, Subway Canada will donate $1 to its Never Miss Lunch program to help feed even more kids in need. Four winners will be chosen later this year, and elements of their designs will be integrated into limited edition sandwich-paper wrapping, which will be used in restaurants nationwide.
