Yoko Nonaka

in memoriam

† 31 January 2004, 3:33

This morning Yoko ended her struggle and found peace. Yoko left us with detailed instructions for the next steps and we use this page to communicate updated information as we progress in the execution of her wishes. There will be three funerals corresponding to the stages in her past and eternal life.

Yoko Nonaka, Citizen of the World

Yoko Nonaka, a private but multifaceted personality who was at ease with technology as well as the arts and world events, died at her home in Palo Alto from the consequences of MMMT, a rapidly invasive disease.

Yoko was known differently to the various circles she frequented. While neighbors saw her as the friendly face bringing food and gifts to the sick, co-workers knew her as a hard-working creative contributor with the highest ethical standards.

But she also had other avocations in which she excelled: literature, painting, cooking and entertaining, and interior decoration. Skilled in multitasking, prioritizing, and scheduling, despite a busy schedule she was always informed on current world events and the economy. She worried and acted with the same passion for world peace and community.

Yoko was an extrordinary person because she only saw the positive things in life. She was able to simply ignore all negative aspects; she was an extraordinary positive reinforcer.

Yoko is survived by her husband Dr. Giordano Beretta of Palo Alto, daughter Deanne Ecklund of Campbell, sisters Yoshiko Taniguchi of Kawanishi and Kumiko Tanaka of Miki, and mother Yuriko Nonaka of Kawanishi. A memorial will be held Sunday February 8 from 1 p.m. in Yoko’s Kitchen, 1760 Newell Road in Palo Alto.

Donations

We are working on a charity in Yoko's spirit to which you will be able to make donations in Yoko's memory. As of December 2004 I am still spending most of my time tending at legal issues, hoping to finish up the funeral details soon.

Encouragement Cards

A tiny selection. Sorry for all the unrecorded cards, Yoko did read, appreciate, and cherish them all.

Condolences

In eternity, people are judged by the memories they leave behind.

Yoko's Photo Gallery

Yoko's wish for Christmas 2002 was a digital camera. On the return trip from the MPEG meeting on Awaji Island I bought her the latest simple camera I found in a store at the Kansai airport railway station. This is how she used it to document her last year of life.
